THE MACHINE STOPS
I recommend you read a story called "The Machine Stops".
https://www.ele.uri.edu/faculty/vetter/Other-stuff/The-Machine-Stops.pdf
It's by EM Forster, a top English writer from the early 20th century and whose novels have been adapted to the screen. EG.Passage to India.
The story is 20 pages long and it's about a world in which technology has dominated man's conscience and actions, and well, suddenly it stops.. It seems prescient for its time. It's a criticism of the way we rely on technology, but it's also a story of hope. It was written in 1909, 111 years ago!
Let me know if you like it. (Or if you don't!)
The first time I saw it mentioned was in this interview with famous actor Stephen Fry, talking about selfies and Iphones; and the dangers of technology:
